NFL Tonight – Are You Keeping Up With the Joneses?

You’re probably tuned into ESPN this morning and have probably noticed all of the NFL scores on your television. Maybe you even have some NFL scores on your computer right now. If so, you’ve probably noticed something a little funny about them. Like, why are there people cheering for the wrong teams on TV? The reality is that people really are cheering for the wrong team.

In most cases, people are cheering for the home team. Sure, they may root for their home team as well, but when they’re not watching the games, they’ll be cheering for the other one. For example, if a person is rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, they’re going to root for Dallas against the New Orleans Saints. Now, the Cowboys do suck, but it seems like more people are watching the Dallas Cowboys right now. They’re probably cheering for the Cowboys because they think they’re a good bet, but the reality is that the Saints are clearly superior in most games.

When someone watches the NFL Tonight, they’re probably seeing an overall inferior product. It’s not that the games are bad. The problem lies with the score. Most of the games are won by a narrow margin, and people are legitimately getting excited over games where the margin is only a couple points.

In other words, you’re only going to get excited over a few meaningless games if you’re a fan of a losing team. It’s just common human psychology. We like to think that a team will win by a large enough margin to make up for any mistakes or errors. But, most of the time, this isn’t the case. In fact, the margin between losing and winning is quite a bit smaller than you think.

So why do you get excited when a particular team wins? Well, if you’re a fanatic, then the thrill of having your “side” win is very important. Unfortunately, many of us are more emotionally invested in the outcome of a game than we are our teams. This is why watching the NFL on TV has become so incredibly difficult for many fans. There are days when you feel as if the only thing that can make you happy is when the score is out of control and you don’t have much hope for winning.

If you’re one of those fans that gives more attention to the outcome of games than the players on the field, it may be time to change your ways. Instead of watching the games on television, try to watch them online. The graphics are a lot more sophisticated and there are more NFL games being streamed online than ever before.
