The nfl network is a sports channel that carries all the latest football news and games from the National Football League. The channel features live games, highlights, and analysis from expert NFL players and analysts. It is available with a cable subscription from many major providers.
In addition to live game broadcasts, the NFL Network also carries a number of other shows featuring interviews with players and coaches, as well as documentary series that look at the history of the NFL and its players. The channel also features a variety of sports-themed talk shows, including NFL Total Access and Good Morning Football.
The first time that the nfl network broadcast live NFL games was in 2006. In that year, the channel began airing eight regular season NFL games during Thursday prime-time, with those games being branded as Thursday Night Football. Previously, the network had only broadcast a package of exclusive NFL games that included international games and late-season Saturday games (which were branded as NFL Saturday).
During the 2023 season, the nfl network added a Sunday evening game for Christmas Eve in place of NBC’s usual Saturday prime-time game (which was aired on Peacock instead). The NFL Network also continues to carry a package of exclusive NFL games in week 16 of the season that are branded as NFL Network Special (instead of the Thursday Night Football branding) and feature similar production quality to games aired under the Thursday Night Football banner.
In October 2008, the network began to offer a high definition version of its in-studio programs. This included a full screen presentation of the in-studio program graphics and, for footage that was originally shot in 4:3, stylized or blurred pillarbox wings. NFL Network also upgraded NFL GameDay to HD at this time.
As of August 2017, the nfl network is available in high-definition through most cable providers with a Sports or Entertainment tier. It is also available in a HD version with the premium streaming service fuboTV, which also offers a base tier of NFL Network without the inclusion of NFL RedZone.
On September 30, 2019, it was announced that the nfl network would be added to the Sky Sports package in Germany under the name “Sky Sports NFL”. The agreement will include live games of both the National Football League and Premier League, alongside NFL RedZone. This will be the first time that Sky Sports has carried a live NFL service outside of its current English-language offering in the United Kingdom.
Streaming is available on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku devices, and Samsung Smart TVs with an internet connection. Xfinity X1 customers can enjoy the nfl network on their mobile devices, too. Xfinity subscribers can check scores, get stats and track multiple games at the same time with the Xfinity X1 app and use their voice to change channels, find games quickly and more. Xfinity X1 TV package tier Popular or higher is required to receive the nfl network.
