Football kicking camps are often the best way for a kicker or punter to get noticed by college coaches. They provide a great setting for specialists to showcase their skills in person to coaches that may not have seen them online or on Hudl. Typically, many high school kickers and punters will spend upwards of $10,000 per year on different ranking camps just to try and get noticed. This is a lot of money that could be better spent on enhancing and developing your skills in a camp environment that is geared toward the specific skill set of kicking and punting.

The kicking camp evaluation process involves a series of drills to measure an athlete’s ability in different areas of kicking. This includes: the ability to hit a variety of distances and the consistency of each kick. The kicking coach will then analyze the video footage and determine if there is any room for improvement in the individual’s game. The kicking coach can then develop a plan to help the student-athlete achieve his or her goals. This could include detailed kicking and punting workouts, game-like drills, or a combination of both. In some cases, the kicking coach may recommend that the student-athlete work with another specialist to enhance his or her game. This is especially true if the individual is not currently kicking with a high school team that competes at a higher level. The specialist would be able to gain valuable playing time and increase his or her odds of being offered a college scholarship. This is especially true if the student-athlete is a sophomore or younger and needs to redshirt his or her freshman (academic) year in order to earn a starting kicker position in his or her sophomore academic year.
